All surface routes (except route 99) make 229 connections with the subway and RT. On buses and streetcars remember to stand behind the white line when the vehicle is in motion. Move to the rear and stay clear of the doors. To tell the driver you want to get off at the next stop, pull the cord overhead, or push the button, as soon as the vehicle leaves the previous stop. PASSENGER SAFETY As "Your Safety Partner" we want you to know that if there is an emergency - fire, sickness, accident, harassment or any other problem - help is always nearby. The "helping hand" decal identifies the various safety features in the system. Every subway and RT car is equipped with a yellow alarm strip. Simply press it to signal the train crew that there is an emergency. The crew will arrange for assistance at the next station. Bus and streetcar drivers also have alarm systems in each vehicle to summon assistance, and all buses and streetcars have two-way radios. When boarding trains, always wait for people inside to exit before you enter. Three chimes sound before the train doors close. Immediately after a subway train leaves the station, the name of the next station is called out over the trains public address system. Stations are designed with security mirrors, intercoms and closed-circuit cameras to minimize security hazards. Telephones in all subway and RT stations do not require coins to reach the "9-1-1" emergency number. ON-STREET INFORMATION Schedules are posted at most transfer locations throughout the system and provide location and route maps. TTC Yellow Pages TimeLine phone numbers, plus travel tips.
