Applicants whose first language is not English must write one of the following tests of English: the computer or paper-base Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Western is an English speaking university.

Students who require financial assistance are advised to consult the educational authorities in their own country and the Canadian Consulate in order to determine whether sponsorship through a Canadian non-governmental organization is available.
