PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION

Admission Requirements

The admission requirements for foreign students applying to an undergraduate program are published in the "Admission Requirements for International Applicants" leaflet. Students wishing to obtain a copy of this publication should contact the Bureau for International Co-operation at the University of Ottawa.

Language Requirements

Applicants whose mother tongue is not English or French and who intend to study in English are required to write the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the University of Michigan English Language Test (MELT) or to submit the Certificate of Proficiency in English issued by the University of Cambridge (IELTS). The required score for students applying to the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Engineering are: TOEFL 550 on the paper-based test or 213 on the computer-based tests, MELT 55; for all other faculties: TOEFL 580 on the paper-based tests or 237 on the computer-based tests, MELT 90. Applicants must obtain a minimum score of 7.0 on the IELTS as proof of English as A Second Language. Applicants who fall short of the required scores may be admitted conditionally, subject to increasing their mastery of English by taking compulsory intensive or semi-intensive courses offered by the University of Ottawa Second Language Institute.

Application Deadline

The final date to apply for admission and submit all required documents is June 30 except for the following programs: Common Law: November 1; Droit civil, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy: March 1; Criminology, Human Kinetics, Nursing, Psychology, April 30; Music (B. Mus. only): May 31. To ensure consideration for September entry, applications, official academic documents and other supporting documentation must be received in the Admissions Office no later than April 30. For January admissions, the deadline is November 15. Applications may be accepted only to certain programs.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Before applying, it is strongly recommended that interested candidates contact their local Canadian Embassy or High Commission for details on student visa application procedures and the length of time required to process a visa application.

There is a non-refundable administrative fee of $30.00 (CDN) for all applicants (except those who are currently in attendance in the final year of a Canadian secondary school or a CEGEP program in the province of Québec). Send an international bank draft or money order to the Office of the Registrar (Admissions), University of Ottawa, 550 Cumberland, P.O. Box 450, Station A, Ottawa ON, Canada, K1N 6N5.
