PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION

ENGLISH LANGUAGE COMPETENCY

Candidates whose first language is not English are required to present a score of 220 (or 560) on the TOEFL, or equivalent on similar tests. Applicants achieving a score between 197 and 219 (530-559) on TOEFL or equivalent on similar tests, must also achieve a score of at least 4.0 on the T.W.E. or present other evidence of English language proficiency such as English courses, E.S.L. programs, strong letters of recommendation from guidance counsellors. Those applicants who have completed 3 years of full-time studies in an accredited Canadian (or other English-speaking country) educational institution or have resided in an English-speaking country for 4 years are exempt from this requirement.

TRANSCRIPTS

Applicants must arrange for McMaster to receive official transcripts from all post secondary institutions attended. Applicants currently attending a fall semester should order a transcript to be sent as soon as the grades from the semester are available. Applicants currently attending a winter or spring semester should order a transcript to be sent immediately. Applicants should send official matriculation certificates well in advance of the session for which they are applying. Official notarized copies of certificates/transcripts in a language other than English must be accompanied by official notarized English translations. Any additional requirements will be communicated after the initial assessment of your application.

RESIDENCE ACCOMMODATIONS OFFERED

Applicants from outside Canada who receive an offer of admission are guaranteed a space in residence provided they apply for residence by June 1, 2001.
