Learning in the real world
While there is no direct link between service learning and academic
achievement, there is evidence to suggest such programs can improve a
student's ability to think critically, solve complex problems, and apply
what they learn in the classroom to real-world experiences.

they receive, a new survey reveals -- a finding that is at odds with the

Low-income students to get $16 M in grants
Some students may be welcomed back to
school this year with a big fat cheque. Rookie Minister of Training,
Colleges and Universities Chris Bentley has announced funding for grants
earmarked for 16,000 low-income first-year students entering university
or college. Students will receive up to $3,000 towards their tuition
this fall from the new Millenium-Ontario Access Grants and, since most
of these students will also qualify for the Canada Access Grant, the two
grants will amount to $6,000, covering first year's tuition in full.

Canada’s future depends on good jobs
Canada's future depends on good jobs that pay good wages. Good jobs
provide people with the means to provide for their families, to put down
roots, plan and build a better future. They allow workers to exercise
their citizenship in full, with time to contribute to their communities
and build a better society. Good jobs, with family-supporting wages, are
the foundation upon which prosperous and progressive countries like
Canada are built.

Undergrads rate schools low
Some schools are doing better than others. Among Canadian institutions
participating in the survey, undergrads at Queen's University and
McMaster University appear to be the most content; Queen's excels at
providing a supportive campus environment, while McMaster shines in the
classroom.
